Stakeholder manifesto

ON SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAINS AND STRENGTHENED LOCAL PROCESSING OF BIORESOURCES IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE

The Stakeholder Manifesto is a pivotal initiative launched by the BIOEAST Thematic Working Groups (TWGs) to promote sustainable supply chains and enhance local processing of bioresources in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). It emphasizes the region’s rich natural assets, such as fertile soils, freshwater resources, and renewable biomass, highlighting the need for increased local knowledge on environmentally friendly technologies.

Key Points of the Manifesto:

  1. Regional Collaboration: The manifesto calls for the active involvement of stakeholders from the CEE macro-region, including EU Member States, the Western Balkans, and Eastern Partnership Countries like Ukraine and Moldova. This collaboration aims to drive research, innovation, and sustainable solutions.
  2. Public Investment: It urges increased public investment in joint research and innovation partnerships to unlock the region’s potential, focusing on renewable biological resources and their sustainable conversion into value-added products.
  3. Sustainable Transition: The manifesto stresses the importance of prioritizing the nexus of soil, freshwater, food systems, and biomanufacturing to ensure Europe’s transition towards a circular and sustainable future. It seeks to reduce dependence on external inputs and promote strategic autonomy.
  4. Bioeconomy Advancement: Advancing bioeconomy research and innovation is seen as crucial for better managing natural resources and accessing new markets within food systems and bio-based products. This includes producing renewable biological resources and converting residues and by-products into sustainable products.
  5. Call to Action: The manifesto is a call to action for individuals and organizations to support the initiative by signing the document, advocating for a collaborative effort to achieve a sustainable and circular future.

The manifesto represents a unified vision for leveraging the natural and human resources of Central and Eastern Europe to lead Europe’s sustainable transition, ensuring environmental sustainability, economic growth, and societal well-being.
